  • What is Jiu Jitsu
Jiu Jitsu is the world's fastest growing martial art. Originally developed as a self defense system and most recently morphing into a sport as well. Jiu Jitsu relies on the principles of leverage and timing allowing a smaller, weaker individual to defend themselves against bigger, stronger attackers. The art emphasizes control through pressure and position leading to submission by joint lock or strangulation. In this way we can incrementally assert dominance and therefore control the level of violence as the situation warrants. Not all encounters are life and death, however, Jiu Jitsu empowers us to temper our response to the immediate threat.
  • What Should I Expect During My Free Two Week Trial

We emphasize training in a safe and clean environment. We make our training partners safety our highest priority. In fact our beginners classes are highly cooperative and we use very limited resistance as we prioritize technical proficiency and precise application. Only once you are comfortable and knowledgable to move safely, will we introduce the concept of sparring against resistance. Sparring is reserved for our All Levels and Advanced Classes.

We prioritize safety and taking care of our partners regardless of gender, however, if you prefer training with a woman partner let us know and we will match you accordingly.
  • What Are The Different Class Descriptions
We offer multiple classes to fit a wide array of needs. We are the area's only academy founded and dedicated to Jiu Jitsu. While others are traditional martial arts programs or fitness academies that have added a Jiu Jitsu "program", we are first and foremost a Jiu Jitsu academy and that informs everything we do. We offer classes for everyone ages 5+. Our Children's Classes teach Jiu Jitsu for sport and self defense for those ages 5-12. With a strong emphasis on giving your child the tools they need to defend themselves against bullies while also building strong character, discipline and friendships. Our Adult Beginner Classes are perfect for those looking to learn our 36 technique fundamental curriculum. These classes will quickly get you self defense proficient while introducing you to the language and philosophy of Jiu Jitsu. It will lay the perfect foundation for those with competitive aspirations. These classes emphasize technical proficiency and learning in a highly cooperative, safe and controlled manner. Our All Level Classes are a great adjunct to Beginner Class. These classes go deeper into the basics and are perfect for newer students looking to fast track their learning as well as more advanced students who want to hone their skills. We teach each class in a systematic progressive approach that allows every student to learn at the current level. These classes end each session with a period of live sparring or "rolling". Finally our Advanced Classes are for those experienced students and competitive grapplers who are looking to compete at the highest level of competition. We examine the latest meta and strategies to build a comprehensive game plan that will take students to the top of the podium. And while the competition in these classes is intense we continue to prioritize the safety of training partners and the mutual benefit of cooperative learning. Gi Classes: (traditional uniform of jacket and pant) These classes utilize the collar and sleeves for leverage and control. This translates effectively to the real world where attackers most often have sleeves and/ or collars. No Gi Classes: A more fast paced, often athletic variation. These classes rely greatly on utilizing under/ over hooks and collar ties. With less friction and reduced control, the battle is generally more fast paced and explosive, creating a different challenge. We firmly believe in having a comprehensive Jiu Jitsu which is effective in all realms, gi, no gi, sport and self defense. All of our memberships are All Inclusive, allowing our students to attend any/all classes for one low price! We believe everyone deserves to learn the life changing power of Jiu Jitsu and it has been our life's mission to make it attainable for everyone!
  • How Much Does It Cost

  • Do You Teach Striking or Punching
We do offer accessory classes in striking and mma however, our Jiu Jitsu classes themselves do not emphasize striking while on the feet. Jiu Jitsu is a grappling heavy art that relies on positional dominance and submission holds to negate a threat. The reality is engaging in trading blows can be catastrophic, even against an untrained opponent. It takes merely 7 pounds of pressure to knock a person unconscious. When we choose to trade blows we put ourselves in a position of vulnerability where we, too can be struck. Even an untrained opponent, particularly a larger one, has a chance of landing a devastating blow under these conditions. We choose to take the chaos out of the fight. Taking our opponent to the ground where we can neutralize their size/ strength advantage and scale the violence accordingly. There is nothing stopping us from elbowing or punching an attacker from the mounted position (although we risk a broken hand or worse). Additionally, becoming proficient in striking requires countless hours of training, it relies heavily on physical attributes of speed and precision and subjects us to repeated head trauma. Jiu Jitsu has proven itself to be far more effective against other striking based arts for both sport and self defense.
